May-June 1999

Repairs, Road Trips, Readiness

Early in May, we noticed that the front corner of our motor home was starting to come apart. Carpenter work was needed! We went to my brother’s house in northwest Indiana to spend a few weeks making repairs. He has a workshop with power tools, so I fixed the problem there by myself.  I was able to replace some rotten woodwork, and soon we were ready to get back on the road again.

We headed south in June for one last road trip. We had some incredible meetings in Tennessee, North and South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Louisiana and Texas. I preached in almost every service we attended. It was one of the best months of blessings we ever had. As a bonus, we were able to spend the 4th of July with my sister and her family near Dallas.

Now we are back home in Bourbonnais, Illinois to begin packing. We leave on July 29th for Kiev, Ukraine to begin studying the Russian Language. Your prayers for us during this time are much appreciated. There are so many details to care for as we prepare to leave.

It’s hard to believe that 2 1/2 years of living on the road has finally come to an end. Our “big rig” (motor home and trailer) has taken us nearly 95,000 miles back and forth across America. It has been a wonderful time of serving the Lord. I have never considered deputation to be a waste of time. We have had the opportunity to be a blessing and an encouragement to churches and pastors. Souls have been saved. People have been challenged to do more to reach the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our family has learned a lot, and grown closer together. Maybe nobody will believe it, but we actually had a lot of fun traveling and serving God together. If God should call you to serve Him full time, don’t hesitate – don’t be afraid to surrender. He has a wonderful plan for your life. 1 John 5:3 - For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments: and His commandments are not grievous.
