Summer Picnics

july picnic

We like to have church picnics in the summer! It is always an opportunity for great food and fellowship, and it gives our people a chance to invite visitors that might not come for a regular Sunday service. Our July picnic was interrupted by rain, but we still had a great “indoor picnic” with all the food served on the ping pong table. The featured dish was chicken kabobs with barbeque sauce.

For our August picnic, the weather was more cooperative, with sunshine and pleasant temperatures. We had an outdoor service, and then served homemade sub sandwiches. Our missionary friends from the nearby town of Mtsensk and some of their people joined us for a good time of fellowship. We played volleyball, Frisbee, and bocce ball.

Dennis continues to come to many of our services. He is very interested in learning more about the Bible. Please pray that he will understand that he needs to be saved.

The trees in our church yard gave us a good harvest of apples, apricots, cherries, and plums. The church people gathered up a lot for themselves, and Ruth used some to make many, many jars of homemade applesauce, apple pie filling, apricot jam, and plum jam. Many of our cherries were made into homemade pies, and the rest are in the freezer.

I spent a few days a week this summer on a remodeling project in our apartment. I removed two windows and built two small brick walls in their places. I laid almost 400 bricks, and the final result was very satisfactory.

In the service of the King,
